About

About Kumuji

Located in Setoda on Ikuchijima, known as the "island of blue lemons," at almost the midpoint of the Shimanami Kaido.

A traditional folk house over 100 years old stands in this quiet port town.

Once called "Futagawa" (Two Rivers), this place had two wells that served as a source of life for the local community.

The house, once home to a fishing family, had a path leading directly down to the sea.

Connecting sea and land, the outside world and inner life, this place carried many stories — like a cultural corridor.

We named this new inn "Kumuji (汲路)" by overlapping the memories of the "well for drawing water (kumu)" and the "path to the sea (ji/michi)."
